Simple Steps to Set Up Your Citrus Juicer
1. Preparation
Unpacking and Inspection: First, take your citrus juicer out of the box. Confirm that all parts are present, usually including the base unit, pulp filter, juicing cone (or juicing head), and juice collection container.
Thorough Cleaning: Before first use, all parts that come into contact with the fruit (juicing cone, filter, container, etc.), except for the base unit with the motor, should be thoroughly washed with warm soapy water, then rinsed completely and air-dried or wiped dry. This is for hygiene.
Placing the Base: Place the citrus juicer's base unit on a stable, dry, and non-shaking surface, such as a kitchen counter. Ensure the power cord can easily reach a power outlet.
2. Assembling the Parts
Securing the Container: Place the juice collection container or jug in its designated position on the base unit.
Installing the Filter: Place the filter (like a small sieve) on top of the juice collection container. This part is used to separate the juice from the pulp and seeds.
Placing the Juicing Cone: Finally, gently place the juicing cone (juicing head) on top of the center of the filter. Different citrus juicers may have different locking mechanisms, but usually, it's just a matter of simply placing it down or rotating it slightly to secure it.
3. Preparing Citrus Fruits
Washing the Fruit: Choose your favorite citrus fruits, such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits, or limes. Wash them under running water.
Cutting in Half: Use a knife to cut the fruit in half across the "equator" (horizontally). This is the best way to cut the fruit for juicing.
4. Starting the Juicing Process
Plugging in the Power: Plug the citrus juicer into a wall power outlet.
Placing the Fruit: Take a piece of the cut fruit, with the flesh side facing down, and place it firmly against the juicing cone.
Applying Pressure (Electric Models):
For many electric models, you simply press down gently on the fruit with your hand.
The motor in the base unit will sense the pressure, and the juicing cone will automatically start rotating. Continue pressing and rotating the fruit until all the juice is extracted, leaving only the peel and a small amount of pulp fibers.
Manual Lever (Lever Type):
If you are using a professional citrus juicer with a handle or lever, first place the fruit on the juicing cone.
Then, pull down the lever, using the presser at the end of the lever to press the fruit, utilizing the leverage to squeeze out the juice.
Completion and Replacement: Once the juice from one half of the fruit is extracted, remove and discard the peel. Then repeat the above steps with the next half of the fruit until you have extracted the desired amount of juice.
5. Finishing Up
Unplug: After juicing is complete, be sure to unplug the power cord from the outlet.
Enjoy the Juice: Remove the fresh citrus juice from the container and enjoy it directly or pour it into a glass.
Clean Promptly: After using the juicer, immediately disassemble all removable parts (juicing cone, filter, container) and wash them thoroughly with water and dish soap. Dried residue from fresh juice can be difficult to clean.
